Unmaking Art Studio
Inclusive & Independent Art Space in the Heart of Barcelona
Unmaking Art Studio is a nonprofit art association and creative space located in Barcelona’s vibrant El Raval neighbourhood. Founded in 2024 by artist Shyne Eghosa Obazee with partner Aideen Farrell and longtime friend Melani Pardo, the studio was born from a desire to create the kind of space they had seen artists and creatives struggle to find. It quickly evolved to focus on underrepresented voices.
We believe art spaces should be welcoming, accessible, and genuinely supportive, especially for emerging and underrepresented artists. At Unmaking Art, artists keep 100% of sales from their work. All exhibitions and activities are rooted in collaboration, community, and cultural exchange. We recognised that in solving a broader problem, we would also be building a new community and opening possibilities for ourselves. By rejecting the vanity-gallery model and Western-centric narratives, we create a space where diverse voices can flourish. The studio also serves as a welcoming hub for workshops, meetings, informal gatherings, and friendships that extend far beyond its walls.
This year, four of our members traveled together to Art Basel and Basel Africa 2025, sharing the experience of seeing some of the world’s most important contemporary art fairs.

Exhibitions and Events
We curate and host group exhibitions celebrating diversity and bringing underrepresented voices into focus. Our shows invite artists from across disciplines and backgrounds to share work that challenges, inspires, and connects. Past exhibitions include:
-
Vibrant Roots – A celebration of cultural heritage and contemporary expression, uniting diverse perspectives in painting, photography, and sculpture.
-
Something Else – A showcase of bold, boundary-pushing works by artists whose voices are often excluded from the mainstream art conversation.
-
Fragments of Home – An exploration of memory, belonging, and identity through personal and cultural narratives.
-
Traces of Us – A visual dialogue tracing the marks we leave on our surroundings, histories, and each other.
2
Studio Spaces & Community
We offer three creative spaces for rent, supporting artistic production, personal projects, and events. The studio also houses a small tool library, giving artists access to equipment they might not have in their own spaces. In addition, we produce handmade frames for artists at low cost, helping present work professionally. Our studio is more than a gallery, it’s a meeting point for ideas, conversations, and connection. Alongside our exhibitions, we host Wine & Wisdom sessions, where artists and guests come together to explore topics ranging from Hilma af Klint’s visionary practice to Picasso’s “borrowing” from African art. We also host artist meet-ups, such as our gathering with Badir McCleary — curator, art consultant, and founder of Art Above Reality — whose work champions emerging artists of color and sparks conversations around history, accessibility, and inclusivity in the art world.
